Giving these women an MPower menstrual cup will afford them good menstrual health, social responsibility for their living environment, more cash for basics and most of all dignity.
One MPower menstrual cup empowers one woman. This is a 5-year empowerment plan.
In our current economic climate our hard earned cash is more precious than ever. While we all want to be charitable and understand the value that lies therein, we need to be realistic in our giving. No longer can we be ignorantly donating to fuzzy feel-good so-called 'empowering' causes without being well-informed. We, in our urban communities, need to be connecting in a meaningful and sustainable way with grass roots organisations. The communities that are receiving our charitable efforts will function more effectively if the women who are sustaining them are MPowered in a sustainable way.
Charity truly does begin at home and the Karabo Initiative is close to home, not only to us as women but in terms of the communities they serve. This is why I have chosen Lerato's Hope to pilot my launch. Lerato's Hope is an NGO based in Pinelands, Cape Town, South Africa who provide support to a number of locally based CBO's.
MPower will be distributing pledged menstrual cups through the Ubunthu CBO and training a number of key women whom the community know and trust. Each and every one of your pledges will go through this system and not randomly flung out at some community- you will know where and how your pledge has empowered. Sustainable MPowerment on a basic but fundamental level.
One pledge, one woman, one 5 year empowerment plan! You can only agree that is money well spent!
